Simon Haywood designs and creates, repairs and restores quality decorative ornament and architectural carving in a variety of woods.
Using traditional methods, Simon creates unique hand-carved products that will enhance your home, garden or work environment. He will also undertake the repair and restoration of treasured items - heritage and contemporary - working sensitively and truthfully to the original design.
Simon carves bespoke items of real beauty: decorative ornaments such as Tudor roses, leaves and flowers; house signs or other items in a variety of lettering styles; beautiful yet practical items - wall brackets, capitals, corbels, friezes, oak panelling, mirror and picture frames, newel posts, interior and exterior sculptures, decorative mouldings - all enriched by skill and craftsmanship.
From his Cotswold workshop in the Slad Valley, Simon, creates original designs for his customers but he is equally at home working from existing ideas they may have. A versatile and experienced carver, Simon can draw upon his knowledge of period styles too. Trained by Master Carvers Emyr Hughes and his son Dafydd, Simon’s skill in working with traditional eighteenth century methods is evident in his mouldings, frieze carvings and hand carved incised lettering. Simon has also worked on larger decorative ornament inspired by the 17th and 18th century innovators Gibbons, Chippendale and Adams and completed restoration work for the National Trust. However, he enjoys creating design concepts for modern living too fusing styles to create a unique product in a variety of woods: oak, lime, mahogany, tulip, pine, fruit woods, walnut, ash, beech and elm.
Working independently or in collaboration, Simon can bring distinction, style and authenticity to your home, garden or commercial space using traditional hand-carving techniques for modern or classic designs.
